Roosts

Nest building is very simple and often consists of a few stiff twigs. Nesting material is usually very flammable, often they build their nest in machinery or inside electric signs. The male will pick the site. They prefer small flat areas away from ground. Look for nest along building ledges, bridge supports, ventilation systems, window sills. The number that roost in any one area varies, normally found in small flocks of up to thirty birds. Under some conditions, such as around granaries or where their are well-intentioned individuals more and more birds appear or stay in that area.

Fecal/Damage

They visually destroy the appearance of your building and its surroundings not only by their presence, but by the fecal matter they leave behind. This fecal matter is not only unsightly, but it can damage building surfaces (roofs with tar base can easily be eaten away), structures, ornaments, vehicles and other equipment. Pigeon droppings contain uric acid which can be very corrosive. Pigeon droppings can contain many fungal and viral diseases that can represent illness and serious liability to your company. The main clinical disease they cause are Histoplasma and Salmonellosis. Histoplasma can occur from inhalation of spores from the fecal, such as through a ventilation system (favorite roosting place). Ranging from  a mild hypersensitivity to a disease that mimicking chronic pulmonary tuberculosis. Children are especially susceptible to severe disease and , without aggressive therapy may die. Salmonellosis (Salmonella), closely associated with poultry. Our immediate environment, such as landfills, sewage treatment plants and meat processing plants make ready access to wildlife contamination.  Transmission occurs by ingestion of salmonellae shed in feces and has an incubation period of six to seventy-two hours. The symptoms could be sudden onset of headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.
